Week Two

I unfortunately missed class this week due to technical difficulties. From reading John’s blog there was new members to the class and there needs to be more interaction from people in the class as it’s hard to know whether they are actually there or not.

For our next class we need to interact with three other players in Second Life.  I teleported to Japan Tempura Islands where I had been last week and noticed there to be a lot of people there last week so I was hoping for the same again this time! I went across the bridge into the buildings and started to explore. I ended up in a room with round objects that I was trying to interact with when my chat started to blink. I saw that I had received a message and when I looked around there was another person in the room. His avatar was ‘posing’ on the bed naked. He’s message said “Hi” and began asking me my age. I felt uncomfortable so I teleported to a different location. So my first interaction with another member of Second life outside my class was not a very positive one!

My faith was restored in humanity after teleporting New Citizens Incorporated. I found this location after searching in the ‘Newcomer Friendly’ category. I squeezed myself into a conversation with three other avatars, two of which seemed to know each other outside Second Life.   The conversation lasted about 15 minutes, we talked about Dungeons and Dragons  (or D&D as they referred to it), which I did’t know much about but was quickly educated on the topic! We communicated through the chat, which could be difficult at times because there could be 4 of us contributing to the conversation at once and as your typing you might miss other peoples messages. I thought it was interesting how we were talking about a board game that you play in real life in a virtual game. We were huddled together and having a conversation about something  you would do irl! They seemed like nice people and I’m glad not everyone is as creepy as the naked player!

I hope throughout my time on Second Life I get the chance to meet more nice people!
